Random Happiness

As noted in this post, I often resort to finding happiness in random things in order to thwart homesickness. Lately, though, I’ve been feeling “meh” about such things like job hunts and finding the motivation to just leave the house and get some fresh air. That last thing, yeah, I struggle with that a lot. It has taken a long time for me to feel comfortable with just “hanging out with myself”.

Last week, though, I did just that and it felt pretty good. I went to a place that brings me happiness and comfort–yes, it’s Starbucks, but the familiarity of my surroundings helps a lot a lot a lot–ordered a cold drink on an equally cold day, opened up my eReader and spent a good sixty minutes sitting at the table by myself. I need to do this more often!

Also helping with the appearance of the doldrums has been my good old stand-by: MUSIC. I have been listening to a lot of instrumental tracks as I write my NaNoWriMo novel (and I’m a little over 5000 words away from achieving the 50,000 word goal–which, should I do it, will be my first time reaching the word count after four attempts!), but my latest music related favourites have been The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 soundtrack (seriously, it’s stupendous) and Pomplamoose’s Season 2 album (about time I downloaded that!).

So, when I sigh upon receiving yet another e-mail from a potential employer that both thanks me and regrets to inform that my application was unsuccessful, I will keep the tunes a-playin’ and the caffeine a-flowin’–one of which is much better for my health!
